Third Stargate Series in Development?

December 15, 2006 By Sam Sloan 8 Comments

Are you prepared to step through the gate for a third time? A third television series in the hit Stargate franchise is now in development, according to GateWorld.net.

A production source has informed the Stargate dedicated website that the new series is in the concept phase, and is being actively worked on by the Vancouver creatives behind Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. No concept for the show has yet been revealed.

The third TV series is also not likely to be rushed into production for a 2007 premiere in order to replace SG-1, which takes its final bow with 10 new episodes this spring. Instead, a premiere in 2008 or later is more likely at this point.

Following the success of the 1994 film “Stargate,” Stargate SG-1 debuted in 1997, and spun off Stargate Atlantis in 2004. The two shows return to SCI FI Channel in the U.S. with new episodes in April. The spring run of 10 episodes each will mark the series finale of SG-1, and the third season finale of Atlantis.

Stargate Atlantis returns for its fourth season in the Summer of 2007.

Meanwhile, SG-1 will continue with two direct-to-DVD movies for a possible fall 2007 release date.

    I don’t mind. I’m just wondering where the gate will take me. Somewhere really exciting, I hope.

    Actually, if you count the Stargate cartoon, this would be the 4th series…

    “Stargate Infinity” doesn’t count as a true “Stargate” series.

    I can see this going one of two directions;

    1) They could end up in the Asgard Galaxy and fight with some new enemy

    or

    2) It could down the route of Deep Space Nine, which would be interesting

    ‘2) It could down the route of Deep Space Nine’? i’m not sure what you mean by that

    Route of Deep Space 9? Sorry but isn’t that Atlantis? They just took the city out into space, hehehe.

    Seriously though, what concepts would be good for a new show?

    I’m thinking ‘Stargate – Origin’

    The saga of the 4 original races…. What were they again? Ancients…. name them. I think it would be a great story.
