Even though this will be the 34th Annual Annie Awards Ceremony, the event has mostly remained in the background of entertainment awards events. However, with animation becoming the new entertainment industry cash cow, newer CGI technologies that make many animation features near life-like, and big named actors lining up to do the behind-the-microphone gigs; the Annie Awards Ceremony is becoming a major competition, anticipated not only by industry insiders, but by fans of the genre as well.
This year’s event boasts of box office blockbusters like, “Cars,” “Over the Hedge,” “Ice Age: The Meltdown” and “Happy Feet,” just to name a few. Even Weird Al Yankovic gets a nod from the nominating committee.
DreamWorks Animation, the lone survivor of the DreamWorks sell-off has walked away with more nominations than Disney, Pixar or any other studio – 17 in all.
Winners will be announced February 11 at a ceremony in Glendale, California.
