btBitTorrent, the groundbreaking peer-to-peer company will soon be distributing movies and TV shows for such entertainment giants like Paramount, 20th Century Fox, MTV Networks and Lionsgate in early 2007.

The company will also be debuting its online video store by February 2007 with flicks from the studios listed above, as well as Warner Bros., the first company to allow BitTorrent legal access to its products.

Many in the industry see this as a win for them as they have been looking for a way to bring their product to the internet without the personal expense of startup. This allows them access to existing, proven download technology at half the cost to them. Some in the business are even talking about distribution of their product exclusively through the internet in the not too distant future. Goodbye video stores.

This announcement from BitTorrent comes on the heels of Wal-Mart’s press release this week that they too have launched their own movie download service. Other companies that have struck Net distribution agreements with studios are Apple Computer, which offers content via its iTunes Store, Amazon.com and video-sharing site Guba.
