Tapping Staying On With “Stargate: Atlantis”

November 24, 2006 By Kyle Nin 2 Comments

When the announcement came this past season that Stargate SG1 would not be renewed for an 11th season, actress Amanda Tapping, who has played Samantha Carter for the whole run of the series still had two years on her contract with an obligation for 1 year.

Tapping will be fulfilling that requirement by moving her base of operation from the SGC to Atlantis in the Pegasys Galaxy when Stargate: Atlantis begins its 4th season in the summer of 2007.

“I am contractually obligated to the franchise for a year. I knew at the beginning of Season Ten that it was a possibility that if SG-1 went down that I might be doing some Atlantis,” Tapping told GateWorld, the dedicated Stargate website. “They exercised that option, which is fine. I think that this is a potential for a bit of fun. More than Carter and McKay. I think that this is a potential for a lot of fun.”

Tapping will still be seen in the last half of Stargate SG1’s record-setting 10th season to air in 2007. As far as how many episodes of Atlantis she will be in or if she will become a regular cast member or not has yet to be announced. Rumors have been around since Atlantis’ last episode this past season that there would be some shakeups going on with the casting of the show and perhaps this is what those rumors are referring to. Does this mean that somebody will have to go? We will have to wait and see. It will be nice to see Samantha going through the gate again, however.

It has also been announced that Paul McGillion (Dr. Carson Beckett) will no longer be a regular cast member when Season 4 of “Atlantis” starts next summer.

Happy about Carter. Sad about Beckett.
