In a new interview with Ian Spelling for Dreamwatch Magazine, which is out now. The producer revealed that he is very excited about the project and pleased as punch to have both William Shatner and Leonard Nimoys input. A few excerpts are included below.
What’s the status of your Star Trek movie?
“I jumped at the chance to be involved with Star Trek XI. We don’t want to say anything about the specifics of this movie, but the involvement of William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy means a great deal to us on many levels, not the least of which is just the respect of who they are and what they do. They are the carriers of this torch and, without being too reverential; we want to show them the kind of appreciation and admiration they deserve.”
Do you look at Trek XI as a one-off or would you like to do more films and perhaps a series?
“You know, I would say that wherever it goes, it goes and hopefully boldly. I want to tell a great story and make sure that the movie works as well as it possibly can, and that it’s as thoughtful and entertaining as it can possibly be. If it works and results in another film, I would love to have that option when the time comes. But I’m not looking at Star Trek XII yet.”
In regards to the actual movie Abrams confirmed that he will definitely be producing but has not confirmed whether or not he will be directing the movie as of yet.
