Sulu Is Hiro’s Dad

November 18, 2006 by Sam Sloan   || Category: Uncategorized

Hiro Nakamura will have a dad on the hit NBC show “Heroes” and it’s none other than Captain Sulu.

hsgtStar Trek icon George Takei has signed on to portray the father of Hiro Nakamura, the feisty fellow who abandoned his small office cubicle in Japan to time/space travel across the globe to America in order to “save the cheerleader.”

“This is absolutely brilliant,” Masi Oka, who plays Hiro, said in an interview with TV Guide. “Hiro’s father is this big honcho who shows up in America with his bodyguard. He has this whole elaborate scheme to kidnap his son and take him back to Japan. “”I just hope I get to say, ‘Dad! Sulu is my hero, not you!’ The sci-fi fans would love it!” Oka said.

“It was just one of those lightning-bolt ideas,” series creator Tim Kring told TV Guide.

George, who is really is looking forward to appearing on the hit SF series, has recently been shooting an episode of Star Trek: New Voyages in which he reprises his role as Captain Sulu.

[...] Case in point is this season’s big surprise hit on NBC called “Heroes.” We reported that George Takei has come onboard the series and will play Hiro’s very rich father who comes to America to try and force his son home before Hiro has had to chance to finish his mission - you remember - “Save the cheerleader, Save the world!” [...]

    Best. Casting. EVER.

(Except maybe for casting Shatner as the Big Giant Head on 3rd Rock from the Sun)
