TV Talk:
- Fox has reportedly hired scribe David Self, best know for penning the Tom Hanks movie script “Road To Perdition,” to come up with a pilot and 13-episodes for a scifi skein, tentatively titled “Beyond”, dealing with an extraterrestrial virus arriving on meteors plunging to Earth, and the NASA/JPL scientist tapped to save humanity from ultimate disaster. Oh, wait… they’ve cancelled it two days after announcing it?
- The CW has picked up the hour-long SF drama, “Jumper” from Warner Bros. TV (not to be confused with the Samuel L. Jackson and Hayden Christensen film). The show is about a young FBI agent who has the ability to jump into the body of someone who’s about to be murdered. He must then solve the crime, along with his female partner, and prevent it before the homicide takes place.

“Beyond” sounds suspiciously like “Threshold”, or “Andromeda Strain”.

Have you seen there stuff? Wow! I so need more room in my house.

Unfortunately for those not in USA/Canada the QMX guys do not appear to ship stuff internationally.

Hi guys! Nifty podcast, as usual…but one glaring mistake re: Bond. 1953’s CASINO ROYALE was the first novel Ian Fleming wrote featuring James Bond, and, contrary to Sam and Joe’s comments, Bond WAS indeed the main character throughout the book. The novel details Bond’s going head-to-head in a game of baccarat against the villainous Le Chiffre, assisted by the CIA’s Felix Leiter and foxy British Intelligence agent Vesper Lynd. The new film apparently follows the main plot of the novel rather closely, including an infamous torture scene from the novel where Bond gets his nether regions repeatedly whacked by a carpet beater (courtesy of Le Chiffre). Anyway, just thought you guys should know. Keep up the good work!

Jeff is absolutely correct – Joe and I stand corrected.
Keith says
DOA (movie) is sounding a lot like the Mortal Kombat (movie) but with more hotties but unlike DOA, Mortal Kombat kept the “mortal” angle in the movie

Hey there! First, thanks to Mike and Evo for being such great hosts and just making the whole experience a blast.
I just wanted to address the issue Jason brought up: It’s true that the commerce backend of our website wasn’t able to handle international orders until a few weeks ago. However, if you go check it out again, I think it’s all been sorted out (ah, the growing pains of a startup!) If you’re still having trouble, let me know (webmaster@quantummechanix.com) and I’ll see to it your problem gets addressed.
Cheers,
Andy

re: all those classic cartoons you’re covering at the end of the podcast.
I found & rented the old Filmation Flash Gordon on Netlfix… yup, this is gonna give me some great flashbacks of my childhood as a latch key child.

Hey I was just listening to your show and enjoying it as usual. I just had to ask what the band was that Joe mentioned. I know he said it was Ukla the Moc but not sure how it is spelled or who they are. I am always interested in bands that take content from Sci fi and other geek stuff:)
Michael Mennega says
I did a quick check of the spelling of Ookla the Mok, searched on the name, and sure enought, the band has a website. (It helps to have the correct spelling 😉

Enjoy!

Yeah, apart from the fact that they’ve replaced Baccarat with some poxy poker game. Pah! Sacrilege.
