“The Goonies,” a 1985 young-hearted adventure flick, had everything from pirates to mobsters to infinite amounts of ice cream. Now a classic cult movie, it turns 21 this year. Much of the cast have gone on to big success in the decades since they first romanced audiences with the Goon Docks and “One-Eyed Willy.” [Pictured below] from left, Jonathan Ke Quan as Data; Sean Astin as Michael “Mikey” Walsh; Josh Brolin as older brother Brand Walsh; Corey Feldman as Clark “Mouth” Devereaux; and, Jeff Cohen as Lawrence “Chunk” Cohen.
“The Goonies” set out to find pirate gold and save their home, but run up against a few obstacles. Among them is a family of mobsters, the Fratellis, hiding out on the outskirts of Astoria, Ore. At left, the group enters an abandoned restaurant, which the Fratellis have their made home.
Corey Feldman‘s character, “Mouth,” was well known for his lies and illicit fluency in Spanish. He worked in many other movies throughout the ’80s, while also battling a drug addiction. He re-established himself in the early ’90s, working in TV and music with his band, Corey Feldman’s Truth Movement. In 2002, he starred on the celeb-reality show “The Surreal Life.” He recently made his stage debut in a theater parody of the hit movie “Fatal Attraction.”
Sean Astin captured young hearts as the asthmatic Mikey in 1985, wooed sports fans as the title character Rudy in 1993, and then slayed us again in 2001 as the ever-loyal Samwise Gamgee in “Lord of the Rings.” As far as staying power goes, Astin seems to be in it for the long haul.
Josh Brolin was the muscled older brother Brand, and the level head of the bunch. He has worked regularly in film since “Goonies,” and married Diane Lane in 2004.
Martha Plimpton, whose character Stef famously made out with Corey Feldman in “Goonies,” has often been cast in “tomboy” roles. She’s acted regularly since 1985 and currently can be seen on stage in “The Coast of Utopia” in New York City.
Robert Davi often plays villainous characters, as he did in “The Goonies” as the opera-singing Fratelli brother, Jake. He has continued to act and directed his first film in 2006.
Joe Pantoliano‘s career has truly come full circle. In 1985 he played the balding Fratelli brother, Francis, and in 2003 won an Emmy for his role as gangster Ralphie Cifaretto in the hit show “The Sopranos.” In between, he’s starred in numerous films, including “Memento,” “The Matrix,” “The Fugitive,” and “U.S. Marshalls.”

Loved the movie but damn…It makes ya feel really old knowing that the film is now 21 years old.
I had no idea that Mikey became our Samwise. And Martha Plimpton was also a surprise, being the daughter of Keith Carradine and niece to David Carradine. Boy have the years flown by.
But what of “Short Round” you ask? He graduated from the University of Southern California School of Cinema Television and is apparently working on the “other” side of the camera nowadays.
