One of Japan’s and the world’s most famous and prolific actors has died and the world of entertainment has lost one of its veterans and giants. Testuro Tamba is dead from pneumonia after an ongoing battle with heart disease.
Tamba won the Japanese Academy Award in 1981 for Best Supporting Actor in the film 203 Kochi and starred in more than 300 films during his entertainment tenure.
Also famous as a writer of several books on spiritualism, the actor joined the ranks of producer, creating several well received documentary films dealing with his favorite subject, the spirit realm.
Tamba is best known by Western audiences for his role as intelligence chief Tiger Tanaka opposite Sir Sean Connery in the 1967 James Bond flick “You Only Live Twice.”
