According to IESB, Matt Damon, the actor whose name has been the only serious contender for the part of a young James T. Kirk, and the one actor that has the support of the original Kirk, William Shatner, is in the dark about the possibility of him being the young Starfleet officer.
We do know that J.J. Abrams, STAR TREK: XI’s producer and possible director, is interested in casting the Oscar-winning Damon as a young Kirk. We had also reported earlier that J.J. already sought support from William Shatner and that Shatner gave his blessing for Damon to play his legendary character.
While on a press junket IESB had the chance to ask Matt if there was any truth to the rumor that J.J. Abrams has approached him to play James T. Kirk in the upcoming Star Trek movie? The star was quick to say he hadn’t heard anything about it and that his publicist even went to far to say that Abrams was joking when he said he would choose Matt to play Kirk and it’s nothing serious.
Regardless if Matt and his publicist are being candid or just keeping the excitement boiling, we still say that if Abrams is going to shot a young series with Kirk and Spock, then Damon has to be his number one pick for Kirk, and we all know that where Damon is, Affleck can’t be far behind as the iconic Mr. Spock.
Keith L. Dick says
Matt Damon, he’s got my vote but only if he “Plucks His Eyebrows” a bit…hehehe
Who will be Spock?… Hmmmm… Well Andy Dick is not even in the running, Wil Wheaton could pass but…
I think I’ll wait for choice….
David Beach says
I think Matt Damon would be great for the role of a young James T. Kirk. But of course, alot depends on which director they choose for the movie. Nicholas “UnDiscovered Country” Mayer would be my pick for director. As a trekie I think it would be a bad idea to recruit Ben Affleck for the role of Spock. STAR TREK is sacred to millions and I just don’t see anyone taking Affleck seriously as Spock. And I hope that J.J. Abrams stays within the frame work of the original series. Over the years Paramount has allowed too many outsiders to mess with STAR TREK just to make money. So please don’t disappoint us. It would also be a big mistake not to hire Shatner and Nimoy as consultants. After all, they’ve been in it since the very beginning.
