In an interview with The Providence, a Canadian news outlet, executive producer Robert Cooper was quoted as saying that SG1 will likely live another day, just in another universe.
“The studio [MGM] is on the record saying that this franchise is extremely important to them,” Cooper said. He also was very clear on the fact that MGM is very committed to the highly successful franchise.
“MGM has a tremendous amount of confidence in Stargate, and we are vigorously working to continue the franchise,” studio spokesman Jeff Pryor said in a statement last week, after the SCI FI Channel announced it would not renew SG1 for an eleventh season.
Concerning Stargate: Atlantis and another possible Stargate spinoff, Cooper stated, “We’re working very hard to make sure there’s a companion to Atlantis when we start back up in February.” It’s premature to make an announcement as to what that companion might be. But you know, we thought Stargate was dead in the past.”
Asked about the longevity of SG1, Cooper replied, “Honestly, back in Season Six Brad Wright (Cooper’s partner and co-executive producer) and I planned for the end of SG1 and the launch of Atlantis, but SCI FI stepped up and said they wanted both.”
Feeling that SCI FI felt the end was coming near after Season Seven, Cooper indicated that he and Wright, at least in their direction for the show, started the countdown for the show in Season Eight. For the stalwart fans, that direction became more evident with each week’s episodes.
Both Cooper and Wright are overwhelmed at the immediate fan response of calls to SCI FI, emails to them and all the petitions that have already been started up to indicate the desire to keep the show going. “Fans of the show have been amazing….,” stated Cooper.
You can read the full article with all of Cooper’s comments in The Providence.
Be sure an listen to our Slice of Scifi Show this Wednesday (August 30th) as we will have more on the other formats by which SG1 may become available in the very near future.

‘s ok. Not everybody gets Firetly. The important thing is that you tried.
But that aside, I do think that they’ve cut SG-1 loose too early. Would love to see one more season to give them time to wrap it all up.
Good to see that MGM is still fully behind both SG-1 and Atlantis.I haven’t been watching SG-1 like I used to, but I’ll definitely show my support and write a letter.

So is that other universe SG1 may live on in a movie?
..or another network?
Note, I buy the DVDs and would also buy new episodes on HD-DVD or BluRay.
I believe the way TV ratings are measured is messed up. If SCIFI channel wants to do wrestling instead of SciFi then oookaaaayyy, but their ratings seem unbelievable; most people I know watch SG1 and yet I don’t know anyone or even know anyone who knows anyone who watched their wrestling – ever.

can you tell me if there is any new info about what MGM is going to do about the Stargate movies, Atlantis, and Sg1, are they cancelled? or being sold to a diferent studio.

They are in trouble due to no fault of their own. MGM is in dire condition why now. The reason why these are in limbo is the same for the next James Bond and The Hobbit movies. MGM doesn’t have enough money to finance these projects. The only reason Stargate: Universe is still in production is because you got return on your investments a lot quicker with TV. Until/if MGM gets their house in order, don’t expect to see these.
