Singer Bringing His Magic To TV

Submitted by: Kyle Nin (SoSF Staff Reporter)

bsHollywood Reporter is saying that director Bryan Singer (X-Men, Superman Returns) has signed a deal with ABC to develop three scripts for the network. Singer has been given a qualified guarantee that at least one of his pilots will make airtime.

Singer will be directing at least one of the pilots and act as the executive producer on all the projects through his Bad Hat Harry Productions.

This is a top-notch deal for Touchstone/ABC, especially after their recent loss of hit-maker J.J. Abrams to Paramount Pictures.

Although Singer was a main factor behind the successful launch of The SciFi Channel’s Peadbody Award winning show Battlestar Galactica and was executive producer for the hit miniseries “The Triangle,” this will be his first real hands-on creative gig for television.

Bryan Singer helped bring the medical drama HOUSE to fox and also directed the pilot episode. I believe he is also executive producer.

That is true, however, he was not credited with the creative development of House (one of my favorite shows BTW). The article was not meant to imply that Singer had never done anything for television before, but to stress that this will be his first foray into creating a show from the ground up (thus the hands-on reference), creating it, co-writing it, directing it and exec. producing it. Whatever comes out will be totally his baby and this will be a TV first for him.
