Another legend has moved on. Jack Warden has died at the age of 85.
The Academy Award nominee has had a long and illustrious entertainment career that has spanned 55 years. He is remembered for such films as “Being There” with Peter Sellers, “12 Angry Men” alongside Henry Fonda, Woody Allen’s “Mighty Aphrodite,” “The Presidio” with Sean Connery and many more than space here will allow.
Jack received an Emmy for his performance as P.I. Harry Fox on the 1984 television show “Crazy Like A Fox.” He had so many other memorable performances on the small screen, but the one I will never forget was in 1960 on Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone episode called “The Mighty Casey.”
He was a favorite of Warren Beatty and starred in three of Beatty’s pictures including, “Shampoo,” “Bulworth,” and his stand-out performance as the cranky football coach Max Corkle in Beatty’s ambitious remake of the fantasy film “Heaven Can Wait.”
Jack was forced into retirement six years ago due to health concerns but not before he finished his last film starring opposite Gene Hackman and Keanu Reeves in “The Replacements.” He had the best line in the film in which his character, coach Ed O’Neill says of the misfit football replacements, “I’ve seen monkey-shit fights at the zoo that are more organized than this.”
