Hong Kong horror flim “The Eye” is looking to get an American remake from Lionsgate and French directors David Moreau and Xavier Palud.

Originally done by Thai directors Danny and Oxide Pang, “The Eye” is a supernatual thriller about a cornea transplant recipient who sees disturbing images in the mirror that send her on a quest to find out what happened to the eye’s previous owner.

Rene Zellweger was to star in the remake but has since left the project to shoot another thriller called “Case 39″ with Ian McShane, and also due to the loss of momentum when the project was being bounced around between the Tom Cruise production company, Cruise/Wagner and Paramount Pictures.

Jessica Alba is now the actress under serious consideration and is reportedly in talks to make this feature right after the Fantastic Four 2 film calls it a wrap.
