On Slice of SciFi Show #063 - Ira Steven Behr
We are pleased to bring you an exclusive interview with the writer/producer/director of some of the finest scifi ever produced on television. Ira Steven Behr, the genuis behind the massive hit “The 4400″ will be our guest on the next Slice of SciFi Show #064 ready for download on Wednesday, June 28, 2006.
Ira is a graduate of Lehman College and majored in Mass Communications and Theater. He was offered and turned down a playwriting scholarship from Brandeis University and opted instead to move from the East coast to LA to chase after his dream of being a comedy writer for TV and films.
His comedy writing career went no where but his dramatic writing flair and commitment to the integrity of a story’s characters won him writing gigs for James Garner’s 1981 Bret Maverick series and as writing editor for the show “Jessica Nova,�? also in 1981.
Ira went on to write and produce such 1980’s shows as “Fame,�? “Once A Hero�? and “The Bronx Zoo.�?
His really big break came in the late 1980’s when he was signed on to produce and write for the third season of “STAR TREK: The Next Generation.�? From that time on his entertainment writing and producing career was set in nothing but forward motion.
In 1993 Ira moved over to “STAR TREK: Deep Space Nine�? and was responsible for the creation of the popular Ferengi species and characters such as Quark, Rom the Negus and the entire Ferengi culture. After DS9 he produced another SF program called “Now and Again.�? In 2001, over 25 years after wanting to pursue writing comedy, Ira was able to write and produce the comedy sitcom “Bob Patterson�? which starred Jason Alexander.
Ira is currently involved with one of the biggest scifi shows on television today and is its Executive Producer. That show is “The 4400.�?
