Is “Grind House” a Dead Project?

The Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino horror anthology labeled “Grind House” my have had its door slammed shut by The Weinstein Company.

While no official word has come from the Weinstein boys, Rodriguez or Tarantino, rumors abound that Rodriguez’s contribution to the anthology, “Project Terror” is dead in the water, and nothing has been heard concerning Tarantino’s addition of “Death Proof.” What makes this compelling is the fact that in the past, by this time in his projects, Tarantino has usually made public something about the progress of his pre-production status. “Death Proof” was to begin shooting this summer, but nothing has been heard from him to date.

If the flick gets made at all, its original December 1 release date will surely need to be pushed back to sometime in middle or late 2007.

Rumors as to why “Grind House” has been halted to a grinding stop range from cost overuns, creative differences between the directors and The Weinstein Company, and conflicting schedules with other production and shooting priorities with both directors; e.g., “Sin City 2 & 3,” “Kill Shot” and “Hell Ride.”

Stay tuned, we’ll keep you posted as more becomes known.
