Jenkins Speculates About Season 2 of Surface

April 3, 2006 By Sam Sloan 16 Comments

Submitted by: Kyle Nin (SoSF Reporter)

In a recent interview for Digital Spy, “Surface” star Carter Jenkins talked about the prospects for a Season 2 of NBC’s scifi thriller “Surface” and his own acting future regardless of the show’s outcome.

So, second season – and it pains me to say this – but it doesn’t look very hopeful. What have you heard?

“Nothing’s obviously for sure yet. It’s crazy… NBC will have their pilots and they’ll review their pilots. The good thing is that a lot of NBC’s midseason shows haven’t been doing very well so that’s good for us . We’ll see – it depends on what they’ve got going on in their minds. But there’s definitely still a chance – it’s not out of the running yet. Whatever happens, happens.”

Do you think you’ve been given a fair shot by NBC? They didn’t pick you up for the full 22…

“When that first happened we were picked up for eighteen episodes but then they reduced it down to fifteen because of the Olympics. But we could have come back after the Olympics. I don’t really know – to be honest I don’t even know the exact reason why we didn’t do 22 episodes because we could have. Maybe it was because the show’s expensive or maybe it was because of the Olympics… I don’t know. But we didn’t have a huge hit lead-in – we were an eight o’clock show – so we had to carry ourselves and I think we did a really good job of that. Our ratings went up in the second half of every show and that’s a good thing. We had pretty decent ratings, we really did, and when they took us off for a whole month in December with not too much advertising so we lost viewers there, but we still did pretty good. So I was happy and I think NBC was happy – what more can you do?”

Would it be fair to say that you’d pretty disappointed if it gets cancelled?

“I’ve prepared myself for either way. If it does then it’s not the end of the world… I’ll be okay. It won’t be that big of a… I mean, obviously I really, really want to get picked up but whatever happens, happens.”

Have you got anything else lined up then? Are there restrictions on what you can do until they make a decision?

“There definitely is. I could have a movie lined up that’s going to shoot through September, but NBC has me under their contract so if they take it up, I have to go start shooting Surface in July. So that would conflict, I couldn’t do that. So it’s kind of hard to do too many things right now until we find out the status of the show, which will be not long. We’ll find out in May.”

Assuming that Surface doesn’t get picked up, what are your career ambitions? Anyone you’d like to work with, any shows you’d like to appear on?

“There’s definitely a lot of actors I’d like to work with, but I think I’d like to do… if we don’t get picked up, I like doing TV shows, so I think I’d do another TV show and hopefully some more films. But as long as I’m working I’m happy.”

with all of the blogs and chatter online you would think NBC would figure it out for themselves that there is a huge fan base. So put season two in the works already!!!!I have five kids and a full time job but my wife and I always made time for Surface.

Join us in our efforts to save this great show. We are coming down to the wire and the decision will be made in time for the announcement of the new line up on May 15. The Pate brothers, the writers of the show are meeting with NBC head, Kevin Reilly the first week of May. We have planned a May Day event to coincide with their meeting. Please join us at Project Nim and the May Day Campaign. You can link to us throught http://www.savesurface.com. Make sure you check out this great site, too.

I just borrowed surface two days ago and to watch the entire season in two days. That show was addicting and I looked on line today to see if there was going to be a season 2 and saw to my dissappointment that there isnt going to be another season. They could of went all sorts of directions with the show in the writing. I really think they should do a season 2. Maybe if they have high DVD sales they will put it back on just like what happened to family guy. Im a soldier over seas and I would love to see this show come back on when I get back.
