While being interviewed by Star Trek Magazine Rick Berman (Star Trek, Producer) would neither deny nor confirm earlier reports that Erik Jendresen’s script entitled “STAR TREK: The Beginning” has been given the thumbs down by Paramount execs.
However, he was just as unclear about recent statements that have come from the Captain of the USS Enterprise-E. If you remember an earlier story we did about Patrick Stewart’s remarks about the possiblity of a new Trek film featuring him and members of other Trek series’, then you will also remember Stewart’s joking around that by the time it gets made, “I would only be able to sit in the captain’s chair and not have the energy to get out of it!” Stewart also seriously remarked in another interview a few months back, “It has been raised. Apparently there’s interest in bringing The Next Generation cast together with actors from different Star Trek series.”
To those remarks from Stewart, Rick Berman told the british Trek zine, “I have no idea what that’s all about. I’ve read that he says he’s open to doing another movie and then I’ve read he’s said ‘I’m too old to do another movie.’ So I have no idea what that is. And anything I’d say to speculate would be silly.”
One thing remains diligent in Hollywood circles when it comes to STAR TREK these days, no one knows anything for sure. Not exactly the way I would want to spend my 40th Anniversary.
