“Dead Zone,” the show responsible for resurrecting the acting career of Anthony Michael Hall will return to The USA Network this summer for its fifth and final season.
While USA would like a sixth season, its parent company NBC Universal, feels the need to cut some of its cable budget due to its own non-cable network poor showing recently in the ratings wars between ABC, CBS and FOX.
Even if the cable network got the greenlight it is highly unlikely they would be able to get Hall. His contract will be up and he is currently in other projects.
It is a shame that NBC Universal feels the need to cut this particular show. Along with The 4400, it is one of The USA Network’s finer programs.

This sucks. You hit it right on the head: Dead Zone and 4400 are the ONLY shows I watch on USA anymore (with the occasional exception for Monk).
And while I'm talking about USA... their website could really use some work. Or maybe it's really their executives. Whichever it is, I find it really difficult to determine when new episodes of a given show will premiere.
What about Monk? I'm a huge SF fan, but Monk is by far my favorite USA show. Hopefully that doesn't get the axe as well so that NBC can pour more money into thier dieing main network.
I just hope they don't cancel any Sci-Fi Channel shows too. (The Sci-Fi Channel is also owned by NBC.)
Aw damn!
Monk, Dead Zone and 4400 were the only things I watched on USA. Ever.
Hmm...if their non-cable stuff isn't doing so well, why the hell cut something on the cable side that's probably doing decently!?
I'm glad they got 5 seasons though
*sigh*
Fear not my Sci-fi-ites....the Dinosaurs that make all the decisions at NBC will die off soon....maybe in another five or ten years. Then all of us young turks with vision will take over and drag NBC kicking and screaming into the 21st century ... albeit a little late. The living corpses running the Burbank elite jerkos will turn to dust and we will spread the stinky old ashes of their contracted "talent"s paychecks all through Beverly Hills while riding our Ion-charged Turbo Ninjas and Harleys.
As soon as they stop throwing millions of dollars for episodes of crap for prime time and News anchors for spin that even WE don't believe ... perhaps then the NBC shoe will be again on the right foot. Get rid of all this red carpet crapola and the ninnies that pander to "The Beautiful People" and money will appear out of thin air to pay for better shows and actors and the Sci-Fi way of life! (...and thats all I've got to say about that!)(GUMPISM)
I, for one, refuse to give up on "The Dead Zone" as yet. According to "Ask Matt" in article dated on April 21, it is said that AMH is "held" until August. AMH is currently pursuing a project, yes, with a writing partner of his. How is that known? Because of blog his writing partner keeps called "The Anthony Michael Hall Experience". So, as AHM seems busy, he's still under an obligation to "The Dead Zone" until a final decision has been made. The projects he's working on can most likely work in his schedule because he is setting his own schedule.
I'm very annoyed that everyone is saying it's over for DZ. It could be, but honestly, it's not over until they officially say it is. They say "hiatus", and yes, it can be a permanent one, but I'm hoping it's only for a "creative" one that allows the writers to pitch the next arc of the direction DZ can go. Even if it is the ending, it deserves that. So, that would be either hopefully 22+ eps or one of those mini-series that launched "4400" into a series. But, in our case it would be a beautiful "swan song" and a satisfying ending to our wonderful show.
I see that "Surface" launched a wonderful campaign to save their show. Hopefully DZ fans will feel equally devoted and inspired to do the same for our show. Time will tell.
