Warner Brothers Pictures has put out a warning on the site’s Harry Potter official message board advising fans to steer clear of an email scam designed to target them.
The fake email purports to be seeking people interested in auditioning for the next Harry Potter movie. Of course the crooks involved with the scam ask for the kind of personal information that could be used for identity theft.
A spokesperson for the studio warns that the emails are “fraudulent, and you should not respond.”
Warner Bros. is asking for recipients of the fake emails to forward them to their Anti-Piracy Division, where they promise to do all they can “to investigate the fraudulent activity,” said the spokesperson.
