FOX Brings On Eragon

June 25, 2005 By Kyle Nin Leave a Comment

20th Century Fox is going to film Eragon, based on the Christopher Paolini-penned bestselling fantasy novel. Stefen Fangmeier will direct the film. The movie is reportedly shot in Hungary’s Mafilm Studio near Budapest, a favorite site for dragon pictures.

This medieval dragon’s tale revolves around a farm boy named Eragon. He learns that he is the last of a breed of benevolent Dragon Riders, whose magical powers are derived from their bond with the beasts.

After he finds a mystical blue stone (a dragon egg) which hatches and produces a beautiful blue dragon, and causes such a stir in his village, the young Eragon must flee from his home. He meets up with a cast of odd characters and new friends. He finds himself in the adventures of a lifetime. One of these odd-ball characters, Brom, an old and wise teller of fables, travels along to help Eragon. Eventually, due to a series of unfortunate events surrounding the death of his family, Eragon must do battle with the maraulding Ra’zac. There are many subplots concerning humans, elves and dwarfs and the heirarchy of dragons that make for a fascinating storyline.

Cast members have not been publically announced at this reporting. Filming is due to start in late July of this year and has an estimated budget of $100 million. It is set for a June 2006 release.
