Bill Shatner still has that sharp wit and wry twinkle in his eye and he proved it this past week at the AFI Lifetime achievement awards ceremony.
William Shatner, Captain James T. Kirk of the original “Star Trek” series and movies provided fun and humor by way of a musical number from, as he put it, “one star voyager to another.”
He performed a variation of “My Way,” telling his friend George Lucas “you did it your way” while dancers in “Star Wars” clone-trooper costumes did a chorus line routine.
When his tribute was over he looked at Lucas in that Shatner way and said, “Live long, George, you’ve already prospered enough.”
After the number, Lucas took the podium and began taking jibes at himself looking almost bewildered as to why he should be getting such a prestigious honor from his fellows.
